The Mac Studio was announced by Apple in 2022 as a completely new product to bridge the gap between the Mac mini and Mac Pro in terms of power and cost. Two versions were available at launch, the M1 Max or the M1 Ultra, with the later having two forward facing Thunderbolt 4 ports rather than USB-C. It was introduced along with the also new Apple Studio Display, a 27-inch 5K monitor.
