How to Use Sidecar

Sidecar lets you use your iPad as a second display for your Mac, giving you the flexibility to extend your workspace or mirror your Mac screen. It’s a great option for users who have both a Mac and an iPad and want to maximise their desktop space.


⚠️ Before You Start

Make sure your devices meet the following requirements:

  • Mac running macOS Catalina or later
  • iPad running iPadOS 13 or later
  • Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Handoff enabled on both devices
  • Both devices signed in with the same Apple ID
  • Two-factor authentication enabled for your Apple ID
  • VPN disabled on both devices

Set Up Sidecar (Wireless Connection)

  1. On your Mac, go to System Settings > Displays
  2. Click the ‘+’ button next to Built-in Display
  3. Select your iPad from the list of available devices
  4. Choose to Extend or Mirror your display
  5. Under the Arrange tab, position your iPad to reflect your physical desk setup

Set Up Sidecar (Wired Connection)

  1. Connect your iPad to your Mac using a USB-C or Lightning cable
  2. On your Mac, open System Settings > Displays
  3. Select your iPad and choose to Extend or Mirror your desktop
  4. Use the Arrange tab to align the displays to your liking

How to Turn Off Sidecar

To end a Sidecar session:

  1. Click the Screen Mirroring icon in the Mac menu bar
  2. Select your iPad, then click End Session
