Rechargeable batteries naturally degrade over time. As your iPad battery ages, its ability to hold a charge diminishes, leading to faster drain and reduced performance. That’s why it’s important to periodically check your battery health to ensure your device is performing at its best.

Monitoring your battery health helps you anticipate when a replacement might be needed before issues start to affect daily use.

How to Check Battery Health

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPad
  2. Tap Battery
  3. Select Battery Health

On this screen, you’ll see three important metrics:

  • Battery Health Status – There are three possible statuses:

Normal: Your battery is in good condition and functioning properly.
Service Recommended: Performance is still acceptable, but it has degraded and should be checked.
Service Now: Battery health is poor. You should arrange a replacement as soon as possible.

  • Maximum Capacity – Displays the percentage of the battery's original capacity that remains. A lower percentage means less battery life between charges.

  • Cycle Count – Shows the number of full charge cycles your battery has completed. It helps estimate usage but doesn't necessarily indicate poor performance.

If your battery health shows "Service Now", it’s strongly recommended that you book a replacement with an Apple Authorised Service Provider.

💡 Tip: If your iPad is still under warranty or AppleCare+, you may be eligible for a free battery replacement.
