Which MacBook Air do I have? Identifying Apple Products

Apple released the MacBook Air in January 2008 billed as “The world’s thinnest notebook”. In order to achieve a maximum thickness of just 1.94cm Apple removed the internal DVD drive and Ethernet port, a trend which subsequent MacBooks followed. Originally launched with a 13-inch display, a 11-inch option was launched in Late 2010 and discontinued with the introduction of the 2017 models. Now running the latest Apple Silicon processors the MacBook Air is faster than ever and deserves the title of the world’s best selling laptop.

With 21 revisions and upgrades since it’s launch it isn’t easy to figure out exactly which MacBook Air you have but this guide should help you determine exactly what you have.

How to check which MacBook Air you have

Check “About This Mac”

Click on the Apple top left, then click About This Mac. This will open a window from which the Overview tab will let you know which model year and the specification of your MacBook Air.

Lookup the serial number

If your Mac won’t power on then About This Mac won’t be much help! Luckily Apple print the device serial number on the base of the Mac. You can then use this 12 digit alphanumerical code to check with Apple, here.
