Regularly updating your iPhone is essential for maintaining security, performance, and accessing the latest features from Apple. This guide walks you through how to update iOS safely and effectively.

⚠️ Before You Start

  • Back up your data using iCloud or by connecting your iPhone to a Mac. This protects your files in case anything goes wrong. See our backup guide here.
  • Disconnect any active VPN connections, as these can interfere with download stability or prevent the update from completing.
  • Have your device passcode ready. You’ll be prompted to enter it during installation as Face ID won’t work immediately after the update.

How to Update iPhone Wirelessly

  1. Connect your iPhone to a reliable power source to prevent shutdowns during the update.
  2. Ensure your iPhone is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network, updates can’t install over mobile data.
  3. Go to Settings > General > Software Update.
  4. If an update is available, tap Download and Install.
  5. Enter your passcode when prompted to begin the update.
  6. Let the installation complete. Your iPhone will restart automatically once the update is done.
  7. After rebooting, reenter your passcode to finish the setup.
