If your AirPods are having an issuer you’re planning to pass them on to someone else, a factory reset is a good idea. The reset steps vary slightly depending on which AirPods model you have.

AirPods (1st, 2nd, 3rd Gen) & AirPods Pro:

  1. Place the AirPods in the case and close the lid.
  2. Wait 30 seconds, then open the lid.
  3. Press and hold the button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds, until the status light flashes orange, then white.
  4. The factory reset is now complete.

AirPods (4th Gen):

  1. Place the AirPods in the case and close the lid.
  2. Wait 30 seconds, open the lid and double-tap the front of the case three times.
  3. The status light should flash orange, then white.
  4. The factory reset is now complete.

AirPods Max:

  1. Press and hold the Digital Crown and Noise Control button on the right ear cup
  2. Keep holding this button until the status light by the charging port changes from flashing orange to flashing white.
