If your AirPods are having an issuer you’re planning to pass them on to someone else, a factory reset is a good idea. The reset steps vary slightly depending on which AirPods model you have.
AirPods (1st, 2nd, 3rd Gen) & AirPods Pro:
- Place the AirPods in the case and close the lid.
- Wait 30 seconds, then open the lid.
- Press and hold the button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds, until the status light flashes orange, then white.
- The factory reset is now complete.
AirPods (4th Gen):
- Place the AirPods in the case and close the lid.
- Wait 30 seconds, open the lid and double-tap the front of the case three times.
- The status light should flash orange, then white.
- The factory reset is now complete.
AirPods Max:
- Press and hold the Digital Crown and Noise Control button on the right ear cup
- Keep holding this button until the status light by the charging port changes from flashing orange to flashing white.
